In this role, Derek is a client executive for the development of risk management initiatives, the implementation of risk transfer plans, and overseeing client participation in BMB’s risk management division, which includes claims, legal, and loss control. Derek has 18 years of experience in the insurance industry and was promoted to join Bowen, Miclette & Britt from his previous role as executive vp of ISU American Business Insurance of Indianapolis. Derek received his BS in Business, Finance, and Management from Indiana University in 2004.

At the heart of the Center you’ll find Tamari Miller, our Grief Services Program Director. Prior to entering this position in 2000, she worked with at-risk youth and foster children in the Central Florida area, Lansing, MI, and Montgomery, AL. Her professional experiences and personal childhood grief experience (the loss of her mother at age 17) have served as valuable resources to address the needs of the grieving children we serve. Tamari earned a Bachelors degree in Psychology in 1994 from Texas Southern University. She furthered her education by receiving a Masters degree in Community/Agency Counseling from Michigan State University.

Michael earned his bachelor’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. He then attended Florida Coastal School of Law, graduating in 2005.  Michael was admitted to the Florida bar and spent the next 3 years working as an Assistant Public Defender in Duval County.  In March 2009 when he went to work at the O’Hara Law Firm, P.A., as a trial attorney.  His practice is exclusively devoted to insurance defense work, including pre-suit claims and coverage analysis, first and third-party lawsuits arising from automobile accidents, premises liability lawsuits, and construction defect litigation.

He started his insurance career in a family-owned independent agency in Vero Beach, where he sold all types of insurance. He joined FAIA in 1996.
